Why does Help This Book ask you to share your Google Doc by email?
Help This Book needs access to your Google Doc so that it can import the content.
To get access, Help This Book asks you to do two things:
- Share your Google Doc with import@helpthisbook.com. This gives Help This Book access to the content of your Google Doc.
- Enter the URL of your Google Doc. This tells Help This Book which Google Doc to request from Google.
You may have used other tools, apps or websites which ask you to authenticate with Google and grant access to your Google Drive. Help This Book doesn't do this because:
⚠️ Your Google Drive is a private place where you may keep a lot of valuable and sensitive information. It isn't appropriate for tools to access your whole Google Drive unless it's absolutely necessary.
⚠️ It isn't obvious how to revoke access. Access settings are buried somewhere in your Google account and it can be difficult to keep on top of which tools have access to what.
The team at Help This Book respects your privacy. This is easy to say but requires careful attention to put into action. The way Help This Book gets access to your Google Doc protects your privacy by:
💚 Only requiring access to one Google Doc at a time. Help This Book never asks for permission to access your whole Google Drive.
💚 Making it easy to revoke access. Any time you want to stop sharing with Help This Book, you can just stop sharing the Google Doc with import@helpthisbook.com.
